James Ryback - Sunday July 15

It’s weird thinking the mission trip is almost over. I feel like we just got here yesterday, and it’s almost been a week. I’m going to miss it here, but I’m also looking forward to getting back home. They had amazing food up here, probably the best camp food around (not just in Alaska). I’m not really that tired, maybe because we’ve had a day and a half off, but with my group cutting the grass and me being the only weed whacker, and my group and me pruning trees and taking them to the burn pile took something out of me. This has been an incredible experience for me, and I’m so glad I came. The water was freezing while swimming (I went in twice in two days) and I’ve gotten to know and build relationships with those who were here (now I’ll actually know people when I go to Fuel). Most of the time we’ve been here it’s rained, but there were a few moments when the sun peaked through. It’s sad that it was a different experience seeing green grass since everything in Racine was brown and dead from constant heat waves. I’d gladly come here again and help, and it’s easy just to lose yourself in the beauty of the scenery, whether it’s the tall mountains, or icy glaciers, everything up here was amazing.
